The Gateway Cafe Views

If there’s one thing we know for sure – it’s that the Cotswolds was made for walking. Whether you’re local to the lakes or just stopping by, The Gateway Café is your go-to for exploring some of the area’s best dog-friendly trails. And the best bit? We’ve got the pit stops to match.

1. Lake 6 Circular Walk (Right on our doorstep)

Distance: 2.1 miles (loop)

Level: Easy, flat, waterside

Start your stroll straight from The Gateway. This beautiful circular route around Lake 6 is flat, peaceful, and perfect for a gentle wander. Great for small dogs, older pups, or when you just want to take it slow. Benches and views all the way round.

Pit Stop: The Gateway Café: Settle in with a flat white and a breakfast bap while your pup cools off with a bowl of water. We’re dog-friendly inside and out.

2. Neigh Bridge to Keynes Country Park

Distance: 3 miles

Level: Easy to Moderate

Hop in the car or walk over from The Gateway to Neigh Bridge Country Park. This trail takes you through meadows, woodlands, and lake views, all off-road and dog-friendly. There's plenty of shade and places to paddle.

Pit Stop: Cotswold Canine Care: Need a post-walk doggy treat? Book in for a wash, trim, or pamper session.

3. Cotswold Water Park Nature Reserve Trail

Distance: Up to 4.5 miles (can shorten)

Level: Moderate

This is a go-slow, nature-rich walk where you might spot herons, swans, and maybe even an otter. It’s a little wilder and a great option for energetic dogs who need a proper sniff-about. Access points near Cleveland Lakes or Pit 44.

Pit Stop: Pizzeria 720: Refuel with a wood-fired slice and a cold drink. Grab a table outside with your pup and share a moment.

4. Sunset Loop – Lake 6 to Lake 10

Distance: 2.5 miles

Level: Easy

This golden hour stroll connects Lake 6 with Lake 10 via peaceful paths and woodland edges. Best done in the evening for those pink skies and cooler air. You’ll both sleep well after this one.

Pit Stop: The Donut Stop: The reward you didn’t know you needed. Warm donuts, sweet drizzles, and slushies for the kids (or you).

5. From Bulrushes to Bow Wow (Gateway to South Cerney)

Distance: 3.2 miles

Level: Moderate

Tracking the historic canal towpath from The Gateway, this route winds through shaded woodland, past lock gates and wildflowers, into the heart of South Cerney. Expect charming Cotswold stone cottages, tree-lined lanes, and lots of tail-wagging distractions.

Pit Stop: The Crown at Cerney Wick or Waterside Cotswolds – Two dog-friendly gems nearby. Whether you want a pub pint or lakeside sushi, both spots welcome you with open arms.

Whether it’s a quick lap or an afternoon wander, make The Gateway your starting (and ending) point. Good coffee, good food, and tails wagging every time.
